New technology in the upcoming iPhone X has legal experts raising questions about the new phone and strict personal data laws in Illinois.
iPhone X will allow users to unlock the phone using facial recognition technology. The Biometric Information Privacy Act in Illinois says companies may not take and store information like thumbprints or, in this case, “face prints”.
Apple says the information is stored on the phone itself, rather than the cloud, but critics contend “Face ID” would make it easier for law enforcement to unlock an iPhone belonging to a suspect without first obtaining a warrant.
