Illinois National Guardsmen are playing a crucial role in rescue and recovery efforts in Texas after Hurricane Harvey.
A C-130 and crew from the 182nd Airlift Wing in Peoria deployed late last week… and in its first two days, it evacuated 60 storm victims, including 20 children, and moved 3,000 pounds of their personal belongings. The crew also transported 7500 pounds of relief supplies and equipment.
Meanwhile, two Air National Guardsmen from Springfield’s 183rd Wing are among the crew assisting with advance preparations for a possible strike by the next big hurricane approaching the U.S…. Irma. The Springfield personnel will be stationed in Florida… while a crew from Peoria’s Air Guard base has gone to the U.S. Virgin Islands with a National Guard team that is focused on disaster response. They are making preparations for a possible devastating landfall by the end of this week.
