A 13-year-old girl has died after being accidentally shot inside a Springfield home… and a 12-year-old friend of the girl’s is now facing charges.
The incident happened Wednesday night at the girl’s home on East Scarritt Street. She was taken to the hospital but died early Thursday of a wound to the stomach. Authorities think the 12-year-old boy brought the gun to her house and was handling it when it accidentally went off.
The boy is being held in the Sangamon County Juvenile Detention Center and is facing charges of unlawful use of a weapon and reckless conduct. Police are still trying to determine where and how the boy got the gun.
