We have some new details in the investigation of a weekend shooting near 16th and Ash in Springfield.
Police say the victim who was shot in the back shoulder blade was a 16-year-old male. Initially his injuries were described as life-threatening, but now he’s listed as stable. Police are searching for a suspect, said to be a black male who was wearing a red shirt at the time of the shooting and may have had a white scarf over his face.

In what may be a related story, Springfield police have arrested a 16-year-old with a long history of run-ins with the cops and are looking at possible connections to the shooting of another teen near 16th and Ash. It began with a traffic stop Sunday night not far from the scene of the earlier shooting.
The 16-year-old driver was known to police because of prior contacts, and officers detected a scent of burnt cannabis coming from the car. They recovered a loaded .40-caliber handgun, and the teen is facing charges including possession of a firearm by a street gang member.
Police are now looking for connections between this incident, the earlier shooting, and possible links to ongoing gang violence.
