Governor Bruce Rauner will not be a facing a political hot potato… at least not right away. Although lawmakers have approved a bill that would expand the use of taxpayer dollars for abortion services, they have opted not to send the bill to Rauner’s desk right away.
Senate Democrats say that’s to give Rauner more time to “ponder” his decision.
Rauner has already said he will veto the bill, saying the use of tax dollars for abortion is too divisive.
A delay in sending the bill could allow Democrats to drop it into Rauner’s lap at a later time when it could create more political headaches for the governor.
