The Illinois State Board of Education is recommending an $874 million increase in school funding next year.
The chairman of the board's finance committee says two-thirds of the school districts across the state are in deficit spending and badly need a boost.
But they're unlikely to get it because of the state budget crisis.
In fact, Springfield School District 186 is bracing for even more reductions in state support, even though the district is already forced to cut millions of dollars from next year’s budget.
