The man who killed a Sangamon County deputy in the 1970s is back in custody in Missouri, just months after being paroled on the murder charge.
The State Journal-Register reports Ronald Edwards was arrested with another man on charges of stealing an ATM from a convenience store.
Edwards is also suspected of several ATM thefts in the Springfield area since his release from prison back in May.
In 1994, he pleaded guilty to shooting Deputy William Simmons in 1975 as Simmons was investigating Edwards’s connection to a stolen car.
Edwards was sentenced to 40 years in prison, but was released last spring.
