Assault Weapons Proposal Advances to Full State Senate

An Illinois Senate committee has approved two sweeping gun control measures.

 

One would ban the sale or possession of semi-automatic handguns and shotguns.

 

People who currently own such weapons would be allowed to keep them but would have to register them with the state.

 

The second measure prohibits the use of large-capacity ammunition magazines of more than ten rounds.

 

Both bills now go to the full Senate.
