  All Day COAT DRIVE   During the months of December and January, the Rochester Public Library will be holding their annual Coat Drive. Accepted articles for the collection will be new or gently used coats, both children and adults), hats, scarves, and gloves. Donations are being accepted at Rochester Public Library through the end of January at #1 Community Drive, in Rochester. For further information please contact Susan at (217) 498-8454.
 
  8:30AM 5:00PM Figurism: Narrative and Fantastic Figurative Art   Figurism: Narrative and Fantastic Figurative Art brings together historical and contemporary body-based art by over fifty artists from the Illinois State Museum collection. The exhibition emphasizes the power and the range of the narrative and expressive uses of the figure in Midwest art. The artworks were selected to create a better understanding and consideration of different representational styles and the ability of the figure to carry feeling, memory, and experience. They were also selected with an eye toward something fantastic—a heightened sense of the super-real or super-natural—whether through aggressive, expressive form, high-keyed color, inventive graphics, or ambiguous situations. The Museum is open from 8:30-5:00 Monday through Saturday and from 12:00-5:00 on Sunday. Admission is free. Parking is available nearby and the building is ADA accessible.   6:00PM n/a Relay for Life Kick of Meeting   Relay of Life is scheduled for June 21st at Lincoln Land Community College but the time to start building your team and raising donations is now. Join the American Cancer Society for the Official Kick Off Meeting at the Southside Christian Church at 2600 S Macarthur Blvd at 6pm. You will receive your team packets and get some great ideas on team building. If you have been part of teams in the past, this is a great refresher for the new year. Illinois Raptor Center's Jacques Nuzzo will share the field marks, behaviors, habitats and calls of Illinois' common owls. Come meet and experience these Black Ops Ninja Warriors! Jacques will also discuss owl rehabilitation and what to do if you encounter an injured owl or raptor in the wild. Admission is $5, first-come, first-served. Seating is limited.   7:00PM 8:30PM Springfield Civil War Roundtable Meeting   Mr. Lincoln's Hometown Civil War Roundtable of Springfield, Ill. welcomes Sarah Thomas, author of Through Time and Space, as its featured speaker at 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014 in the Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Museum, 629 S. Seventh Street, Springfield, Ill. Thomas is the daughter of renowned Lincoln author and first president of the Springfield Roundtable, Ben Thomas. She will discuss stories from her new book, including one about her famous father. The Roundtable meets monthly at the above location to enjoy good fellowship and further explore all aspects of the American Civil War.
