  All Day Children's Holiday Store   The 24th Children's Holiday Store is the biggest funraiser for the Mini O'Beirne Crisis Nursery. At the store children shop with the help of a volunteer while parents wait in the lobby. Gifts range from $1 to $10 so there is plenty of variety. Once they have found the "perfect" gift, children, bag and tag each gift with their volunteer before leaving the store. Open Saturday, Nov. 30 through Dec. 23. Location: Town & Country Shopping Center (between Chuck E Cheese and Tuesday Morning in the former Designer Chic store). The Children's Holiday Store Hours: Monday–Friday ….....4-8 p.m. Saturdays ……………10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Sundays ………...…..noon-5 p.m.
  All Day COAT DRIVE   During the months of December and January, the Rochester Public Library will be holding their annual Coat Drive. Accepted articles for the collection will be new or gently used coats, both children and adults), hats, scarves, and gloves.   12:00PM 5:00PM Food Drive   Share your good fortune this holiday season by contributing to a food drive sponsored by The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) and the Illinois State Museum (ISM) to benefit the Central Illinois Foodbank. Through Dec. 31 drop off goods at the ISM lobby Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.. to 5 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. Closed Christmas Day. Help People in Need & Donate to the Central Illinois Foodbank. When you come in out of the cold to rediscover the Illinois State Museum this holiday season, be sure to bring a little something extra to add to a very important wooden box in the first floor main lobby. The IDNR and ISM are collecting nonperishable food items to be donated to the Central Illinois Foodbank to help people and families in need.   5:00PM 8:00PM Holiday Lights at the Zoo   The dates for this year's lights display are Dec. 6-23 from 5-8 p.m. each evening. Admission is $3.25 per adult and $2.00 per child.   8:30AM 5:00PM Holiday Decorations   In keeping with the simpler decorations of the times, the Lincoln neighborhood is decorated with wreaths and greenery. Decorations will remain up through Jan. 2, 2014. The Lincoln Home is open for guided tours every day except Christmas Day (Dec. 25) and New Year's Day (Jan. 1). Free tickets for the tours may be picked up at the Visitor Center, 426 South Seventh Street. The Visitor Center is open from 8:30-5:00, with the last tour going in to the Lincoln Home at 4:30. Tickets are not needed to walk around the neighborhood.
  1:00PM 3:00PM Springfield Christmas Bird Count   Adams Wildlife Sanctuary will be participating again this year in the Springfield Christmas Bird Count. Illinois Audubon Society is seeking volunteers to help with the count on Dec. 22 from 1 to 3 p.m. The outside count will be conducted along the two-mile perimeter trail of the Sanctuary. For those who would are interested but would rather not brave the winter chill, indoor volunteers are also needed to help count the birds at the feeders. All levels of bird expertise are welcome to join. Holiday refreshments will be provided.   2:00PM n/a A Very Hoogland Christmas   The Hoogland Center for the Arts and Solomon Colors are proud to present the 2nd annual A Very Hoogland Christmas Dec. 20-22! Friday and Saturday performances are at 7pm and the Sunday performance is at 2pm. Join us for a preshow dinner on Friday, December 20 at 6:30pm catered by Arena Food Service! Dinner is $15 per person and reservations can be made online when purchasing a show ticket or by phone (523-2787). Reservations must be made by December 17 at 5pm. A Very Hoogland Christmas is a Christmas concert featuring classic holiday tunes, contemporary Christmas music and beautiful sacred music as well. The show, hosted by Gus Gordon, will feature Meghan Birch, Nathan Carls, Vanessa Ferguson, Kevin Ford, Amanda Reynolds, Debbie Ross, Mary Kate Smith and Matthew Vala and will showcase the Hoogland Kids, Teens and Juniors (and don't be surprised if Santa and Mrs. Claus make an appearance to say "Merry Christmas" to the kids in the audience).   2:00PM 4:00PM Skate with Santa   Come out and Skate with Santa at the Nelson Center during designated public skate times on Dec. 21 and Dec. 22. On Dec. 21, Santa will skate during the 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. public skate from approximately 12–1 p.m. and on Dec. 22 during the 2–4 p.m. public skate from approximately 2:30-3:30 p.m. Bring the family whole family out for this fun holiday event.
