  8:00AM 12:30PM Farmers Market   Live, work, play, and be healthy! Downtown Springfield, Inc. (DSI) invites the public to attend opening day ribbon cutting and festivities for the Old Capitol Farmers’ Market, presented by St. John’s Hospital, Wednesday, May 15 at 10 a.m.; with live music by the Frank Trompeter Quartet, Celebrity Chef Demonstration by Ashley Meyer of Real Cuisine Restaurant & Catering, and free cake (while it lasts) made by Incredibly Delicious. The Market will be held 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturday’s May 15 – October 26 and is located on Adams Street between Fifth and Second streets. With nearly three full blocks of vendors there is an outstanding variety of produce, baked goods, meats, cheese, plants and many other specialty items. The Market accepts LINK, Debit, and Credit Card transactions for the purchase of Market Tokens ($1.00 each). The Market Token Station will be located at Development Services Group, 401 E. Adams (NE corner of Fourth and Adams) and available 8 a.m. to noon each Market day. Vendors will also continue to accept cash, checks, WIC and Senior Coupons. DSI again received grant funding from LINK UP Illinois to provide Double Value tokens for Link cardholders; LINK UP Illinois is a program of Experimental Station, in partnership with Wholesome Wave and the Illinois Farmers Market Association. LINK customers may receive a maximum of $10 of Double Value tokens per market day until grant funds are expended.

  9:00AM 6:00PM The Great Pumpkin Patch   The Great Pumpkin Patch is proud to invite guests to see over 300 varieties of pumpkins, squash and gourds from over 30 countries around the world; all grown here on our farm. Numerous premier displays, over 5,000 hardy mums, various mazes and gardens grace the grounds. There's a diversity, of plants and animals- with several goats, pigs, exotic chickens, rabbits, a llama and an alpaca. There are several places to eat and drink on the farm and lots of entertainment on the weekends. Named Illinois Agritourism Business of the Year in 2009, The Great Pumpkin Patch is much more than an ordinary pumpkin patch. It is a safe, family-fun atmosphere where learning can take place. Located in the heart of Amish country, 2 miles south and 1/2 mile west of Arthur, they are open from Sept. 15 through Oct. 31 every day, seven days a week, from 9 am to 6 pm. Admission is charged.

  7:00PM 10:00PM Terror on the Square   Ranked a top 10 haunt in Illinois for 2012 on! This terrifying haunted house with mystifying illusions and ghostly holograms is set in a 1930s funeral home on the square in Petersburg.   6:00AM 11:59PM Little Flower School Online and Live Auction   Little Flower School in Springfield is holding an online auction starting October 5, 2013 and ending October 11, 2013. Anyone can bid on the over 100 items available. Items range from tickets to trips to handmade items. There's something for everyone! Visit to view the items and get registered to bid. A Wedding Crasher Reception and Live Auction will be held on October 12 at 5:30 pm. Break out your old bridesmaid dresses and powder blue tuxedos as we celebrate our mock bride and groom!   6:30PM n/a Denim and Diamonds   Simmons Cancer Institute at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine is hosting its 13th annual “Denim & Diamonds” fundraiser Saturday, October 12. The funds raised will support innovative research projects and enhance patient comforts. More than 90 percent of the funds raised at the event stay local. Guests at Denim & Diamonds are encouraged to dress in their finest denim or formal attire for the event, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 3000 S. Dirksen Parkway, Springfield. This year’s theme is “An Evening of Partners in Hope.” Tickets are $125 per person or $1,250 for a table of 10 and available by calling 217-545-2955. Touch-pad bidding will again be available for the silent auction, which will provide greater convenience and processing speed. Both the live and silent auctions feature impressive items, including gourmet dinners, sporting event tickets, original artwork, vacation homes, one-of a kind jewelry, and much more.
