  7:00AM 5:30PM Summer Day Camp   The Springfield Park District is taking registrations for the Nelson Center Summer Day Camp. Camp begins June 3 and runs through August 17 (Monday – Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.). Kids ages 5 -12 can attend and participate in various outdoor activities including swimming, games and themed weeks. Swimming lessons are provided as well.   9:00AM 5:00PM On My Own Time City-wide Visual Arts Exhibit   The City-wide Exhibit for the On My Own Time program, sponsored by the Springfield Area Arts Council, will be on display in Union Station, 500 E. Madison, across from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, from Sunday, June 23 through Friday, July 12, 2013. The exhibit will be available for viewing daily from 9 AM to 5 PM, except July 12 when it closes at 4 PM. This visual arts program gives employees of participating businesses, agencies and institutions an opportunity to share their creative talents through artwork completed outside working hours. The artwork was first exhibited at the participating workplaces where the paintings, drawings, photography, fiber art, and other art mediums were judged by a panel of specialists. Over 275 pieces of art were included in the In-House Exhibits held in May. Eighty-one (81) first-place artworks qualified for the City-wide Exhibit. This artwork is judged again and awards presented for the City-wide Exhibit. Participating companies, businesses, institutions, and agencies include the following: American General Life Companies, Bunn-O-Matic, Lincoln Land Community College, Southern Illinois University-School of Medicine, Springfield Public School District 186, University of Illinois at Springfield, Illinois Commerce Commission, Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, Illinois State Board of Education, Illinois State Museum, Illinois State Police, and Illinois Departments of Agriculture, Human Services, and Public Health.

  9:15AM 11:30PM Monthly Meeting   PROGRAM: “Curcurbits Coast to Coast” Speaker: Mac Condill, owner and operator of “The Great Pumpkin Patch” located in Arthur, Illinois. Extensive training in Horticulture and love for their family farm has helped shape the evolution of ”The Great Pumpkin Patch” over the last 25 years. In 1977, Bruce and Mary Beth (McDonald ) Condill added a few pumpkin seeds to their children’s garden, and a cucurbit business grew to 63 acres of pumpkins, squash and gourds. Involvement in commercial pumpkin production followed, as well as, the preservation and development of heirloom and rare cucurbit seeds. Free and open to the public. www.SCGC-IL.org
 
  10:00AM 1:00PM Children's Reading Program   Prairie Skies Public Library District would like to announce that additional children’s programs will be offered in the month of July. Please encourage your kids to read through regular trips to the local library. The Children’s Programs will be offered every Monday in July. Times are 10 a.m. at the Ashland location and repeated at 1 p.m. at the Pleasant Plains location. Prairie Skies Public Library District is located in the old Ashland School District and the Pleasant Plains School District (not including the recently annexed territory to Springfield.) We serve a population of 7,197. We have internet computers we provide to the public, free WIFI, movies, music cd’s, books on cd and MP3 players as well as books, newspapers and magazines. We have fax machines for public use as well as copy machines and printers. We provide an online card catalog where you can put books on hold, renew or update your information. We also provide E-books and audio books online for our patrons through Alliance Media Mall. It can all be found on our website at http://pspld.com.
