9:00AM 5:00PM On My Own Time City-wide Visual Arts Exhibit   The City-wide Exhibit for the On My Own Time program, sponsored by the Springfield Area Arts Council, will be on display in Union Station, 500 E. Madison, across from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, from Sunday, June 23 through Friday, July 12, 2013. The exhibit will be available for viewing daily from 9 AM to 5 PM, except July 12 when it closes at 4 PM. This visual arts program gives employees of participating businesses, agencies and institutions an opportunity to share their creative talents through artwork completed outside working hours. The artwork was first exhibited at the participating workplaces where the paintings, drawings, photography, fiber art, and other art mediums were judged by a panel of specialists. Over 275 pieces of art were included in the In-House Exhibits held in May. Eighty-one (81) first-place artworks qualified for the City-wide Exhibit. This artwork is judged again and awards presented for the City-wide Exhibit. Participating companies, businesses, institutions, and agencies include the following: American General Life Companies, Bunn-O-Matic, Lincoln Land Community College, Southern Illinois University-School of Medicine, Springfield Public School District 186, University of Illinois at Springfield, Illinois Commerce Commission, Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, Illinois State Board of Education, Illinois State Museum, Illinois State Police, and Illinois Departments of Agriculture, Human Services, and Public Health.
