  All Day Geocaching   Get your family out to experience our parks with geocaching, a fun high tech scavenger hunt. Starting this spring, search for Springfield Park District's 10 caches hidden throughout the park district. Find exciting, first to find prizes, as well as passes and other fun prizes.   7:00PM 7:30PM CARILLON TOURS AND FREE CONCERTS   The Thomas Rees Memorial Carillon, in Washington Park, will re-open for tours on Saturday, May 4. The Rees Carillon, a 12-story tower with three observation decks, offers spectacular views of Washington Park and Springfield from the city’s highest point of elevation. Tours are offered every 30 minutes on Saturdays and Sundays from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm. There is one tour on Wednesdays at 6:30 pm. New this year, every tour includes a live carillon performance. Adults - $3.25 and children - $2.50. The new expanded free schedule of concerts begins this Wednesday, May 1. Concerts are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:00 pm and Sundays at 3:00 and 7:00 pm. Each concert is 30 minutes in length. Robin Austin, the Park District’s Carillonneur plays a wide variety of classical, folk and popular songs. Enjoy the beauty of Washington Park and the adjacent Botanical Center with the unique accompaniment of carillon music

  7:00PM 8:30PM International Carillon Festival   INTERNATIONAL CARILLON FESTIVAL June 2-8, 2013 except Wednesday 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM Rees Memorial Carillon Washington Park – 1740 W Fayette Ave – near Chatham Rd, Springfield, IL 62704 Phone: 217-546-3853 Cost: Free, Family Friendly Event Fabulous Festival Fireworks – Friday, June 7, 9:15 p.m. www.carillon-rees.org Event sponsors: Rees Carillon Society, Springfield Park District, The Carillon Belles 52nd annual International Carillon Festival – accessible – rain or shine. Six of the world’s top Carillonneurs from The Netherlands and the United States will present concerts nightly (except Wednesday). The International Carillon Festival is one of the world’s most important and prestigious carillon events for the past 51 years. View the playing keyboard and Carillonneur during the performance on the large video screen at the base of the Carillon. Food vendor or bring a picnic. Bring a blanket or chair and enjoy an evening in the park.
 
  7:00AM 5:30PM Summer Day Camp   The Springfield Park District is taking registrations for the Nelson Center Summer Day Camp. Camp begins June 3 and runs through August 17 (Monday – Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.). Kids ages 5 -12 can attend and participate in various outdoor activities including swimming, games and themed weeks. Swimming lessons are provided as well.   10:00AM 2:00PM Bob Steffan Summer Film Fest   "The Magic School Bus Blows Its Top." Film will be shown on Tuesday, June 4 and Wednesday, June 5 at 10am and 2pm The Bob Steffan Summer Film Fest is recommended for children ages 3-8 and is great for day care classes, summer camp groups and families. Each program lasts approximately 30 minutes. Free and open to the public.   11:30AM 5:30PM St. John's Children's Hospital Golf Challenge   Join us for the 6th Annual St. John's Children's Hospital Golf Challenge. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m at Panther Creek, 3001 Panther Creek Dr. Enjoy lunch, visit the driving range and use the putting green. Shotgun starts at 12:30 p.m.
 
  5:30PM 9:00PM NCCL Ice Cream Social   The Northside Children's Community Library is holding an ice cream social at Douglas Park in conjunction with the first Springfield Municipal Band Concert of the season on Tuesday, June 4. Pricing & Ticket Info: A piece of homemade cake or slice of pie and ice cream is $4. Bottled water and iced tea will also be available for $1.
 
  7:00PM 8:00PM 114th Illinois Volunteer Infantry Flag Lowering   Every Tuesday evening the 114th Illinois Volunteer Infantry will conduct a flag lowering ceremony. The flag that has hung over Lincoln's Tomb will be given to a lucky visitor. Must be present to win. Pricing & Ticket Info: $0
