All Day Cut-a-thon   University of Spa & Cosmetology Arts will be hosting a cut-a-thon to raise money for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) on Thursday, May 23, 2013 from 8:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. In observance of National Missing Children’s Day, USCA will join other cosmetology schools nationwide to raise money for the Center. Haircuts and manicures will be offered for $5.00. In addition to haircuts and manicures, the school will be offering facials for $10 and 1/2 hour massages for $10. All money raised that day will be donated to the Center. “Our school is participating in this national cut-a-thon because we believe that volunteerism and community service are important to the success and growth of our students and the well-being of our community”, states Jamie Kauffman, Director of Operations. “One in five girls and one in 10 boys will be sexually exploited by the time they reach adulthood. In addition, one in seven kids will receive sexual solicitations online. With such staggering statistics, it is more important than ever that parents and guardians teach children how to stay safe. The NCMEC is an important resource in helping with this mission,” adds Kauffman. NCMEC was founded in 1984 and since then has assisted law enforcement in the recovery of more than 183,000 missing children. The organization’s CyberTipline has handled more than 1.7 million reports of child sexual exploitation. To learn more about NCMEC, call its toll-free, 24-hour hotline at 1-800-THE-LOST or visit its website at www.missingkids.com. University of Spa & Cosmetology Arts is located at 2913 West White Oaks Drive in Springfield. For more information, contact Jamie Kauffman at 217-753-8990.
