Springfield Police Chief Ken Scarlette returns to work – says his prognosis is good but that he’s getting more tests soon

Springfield Police Chief Ken Scarlette is back on the job after undergoing surgery for prostate cancer.

Scarlette says his prognosis is good after the surgery to remove his prostate, but says he will have additional tests in the coming days to determine if any further treatment is needed.

Scarlette says he’s working eight-hour days – but notes that’s actually a lighter schedule than he usually maintained before his diagnosis.

He says he would like to stay on as chief under new Mayor Misty Buscher, and says he’s been in regular contact with Buscher, who pledged that Scarlette’s job is safe during his medical recovery.
