Coalition Pushes For 'Death With Dignity' Law In Illinois [AUDIO]

It’s an issue that generated national controversy years ago and it may soon be returning to the forefront in Illinois.

A coalition of groups is starting the process that they hope will lead to a death-with-dignity law in Illinois. Such a law based after one enacted in Oregon in the 1990s would allow terminally ill individuals to obtain a prescription for drugs that would let them end their own lives on their terms.

An official with Final Options Illinois says people deserve the right to avoid facing a prolonged and painful death if they so choose.

But it’s unclear just how quickly a bill might be introduced, and what support it would have in the state legislature.
