Portion of Illinois Route 16 To Be Renamed After Fallen Vietnam Soldier

A stretch of highway in Macoupin County has been renamed in honor of an Army private who became the first resident of that county to die in combat in the Vietnam War… more than 50 years ago.

A section of Illinois Route 16 from Stagecoach Road to Gillespie has now been designated the Private First Class Gary Wayne Price Memorial Highway. Price was killed in May of 1967, just a month after starting his tour of duty in Vietnam.

State Senators Andy Manar and Sam McCann teamed up on the joint resolution to get the honorary designation.
